    • Hurricane Irma strengthened to 185 mph Tuesday afternoon, tying as the second-strongest Atlantic hurricane on record, as it continued on a course toward the northeastern Caribbean and South Florida.

      Gusts of up to 218 mph :wtf: were reported in the "potentially catastrophic" storm, according to the 2 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

      Despite its immense power, the storm may still get stronger. :eek:

      Hot water is like a supercharger. Even one or two degrees. I wouldn't be shocked at 300 mph.

      They were showing NASA/satellite images on TWC. Amazing, the weathergirl was saying this is a mature, textbook, hurricane formation. Also predicted to be the biggest since the 1930s in wind speeds and size.

      History:
      190mph = Allen
      185mph = Irma
      185mph = Wilma
      185mph = ? (male name, didn't catch it)
      180mph = Rita

      Hurricane Irma - Live Thread #1

      The normal upper atmosphere current that dips south over TN/KY is what is going to cause Hurricane Irma to veer right. All the models have the same pattern turn, just not the same path. If Irma goes up the Gulf side of FL, it will be just as bad as if it goes up or slams into the east coast.
